There has been a lot of sadness in our membership recently. Mae Dean, Betty Willis and former member Margaret Allen lost their sister at the beginning of last week. Later in the week, Gail Smothers husband Tom died after a 3 year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these families.

Word has been received that Tom Smothers is in Vanderbilt and expects to go home soon and be placed under Hospice care. Tom made the decision not fight his illness any longer and is at peace with his decision. Please remember Gail, Tom and the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations to Judy Duncan! She is the winner of the 2009 Special Match Play Tournament. The weather caused many dealys in getting the tournament completed. Hopefully next year we will get all the glitches worked out and we won't have to wait until the last week to complete play. Once again, many thanks to everyone who participated.

Wow! What a match between Marlene and Gail!! These two ladies really know how to take it to the finish line. After no winner at the end of the regulation eighteen holes, they returned to the 18th tee for a play off hole. Still no winner, so back to 18 tee again- once again no winner. Finally after playing 18 for the fourth time, Gail was the winner. Too bad there had to be a loser in the match because they are both winners but sadly only one could advance to the final. The final match will be between Gail and Judy D. Good luck to both players. Thanks to all who played in this event!

Finally a playday with no rain! The course was a bit soggy so we played "lift, clean and place" and we we restricted to cart path only. The conditions didn't seem to affect everyone and there were some good scores. MJ had a nice 81, Karin 85 and Kim 87. These were the only scores in the 80's but Mary Mc and Juanita played well enough to qualify for the Championship flight. Great going ladies! The rest of us just hung around. We encourage all members to come out and play even if not participating in the tournament.

With greatest apologies I must report an "Oops". When the winner of the Rally was announced, Kim Watkins was the winner with low net score of 71. She notified us that she had neglected to sign up for the tournament therefore she was ineligible to win. We appreciate her calling this to our attention. Mary Jane Baldinger and Carol Glasgow tied with net scores of 73. According to our yearbook-page 23- ties woiuld be broken by matching scorecards. MJ had the low score on the back nine and is the winner. Apologies to Kim and Congratulations to MJ.

Member/Guest update: Once again the weather was the winner. After most players had played only four holes the siren was sounded and we were called off the course. A heavy thunderstorm came through and after an hour delay and the promise of more rain to come, a decision was made to reschedule the event. We will now try again on August 6th.
Fay put out the hamburgers and we enjoyed a delicious lunch with side dishes of baked beans, pasta salad, chips and brownies provided by HHLGA members.
Many thanks to Rita and Lilli for a job well done!!

Rita Stinson and I took the equipment you donated to the 1st Tee on Friday.
A picture will soon be up.We did not count individual items, but the response
was overwhelming. We had 4 empty cart bags, 5 bags with clubs, 11 sets of clubs (including irons, woods and putters), a box of clothing, 1 pair shoes, 2 umbrellas, 3 large containers of balls and some head covers. Thanks to everyone and if you still have some items, you can bring them to the club house and they will be put into a locker until we have the opportunity to take to the 1st Tee.
Thanks again-and have a good week.

Thanks to everyone who attended the spring luncheon. The equipment donated to go to 1st Tee was overwhelming. A photo is posted of some of the equipment.
Tee time will be at 8--so be there by 7:30 on April 2nd. Some wanted my Copper Penny recipe: 2 lbs carrots, sliced, cooked and drained; l large onion chopped; 1 large green pepper chopped (optional); 2 stalks celery, chopped---Marinade:
1 can condensed tomato soup; 1 cup sugar; 1/2-1 teaspoon dry mustard; 2 tablespoons Worcestershire; 1/2 cup oil; 3/4 cup white vinegar; 2 teaspoons salt--
Cook sliced carrots about 18-20 minutes and drain.Add other vegetables. Mix marinade and pour over vegetables. Keeps well in refrigerator. Serves 16. Enjoy and look forward to seeing everyone in April.
